Kona Sober Living was founded with a clear purpose: to create a safe, affordable, and welcoming space for individuals in recovery on the Big Island. We understand the challenges of early sobriety—and know the power of community, structure, and support in creating real, lasting change.

Our homes provide more than shelter. They offer accountability, encouragement, and a sense of belonging. Residents are part of a supportive ‘ohana where everyone contributes, supports, and grows together. Our team is deeply committed to your success and well-being, walking beside you, as you navigate the path of recovery.

Whether you are from Hawai’i or new to the island, you’ll find a place here where your story is respected, your healing is honored, and your journey is celebrated.

Mission & Vision

Our Mission

At Kona Sober Living, our mission is to provide safe, structured, and supportive housing for individuals in recovery, guided by the values of aloha – harmony, respect, kindness, and community. We empower our residents with the tools, accountability, and connection they need to sustain long-term sobriety, rediscover their purpose, and thrive as contributing members of our island ‘ohana.

Co-Founder and Executive Director

Jeff is a behavioral health program architect and U.S. military veteran with over 20 years of experience working with individuals facing substance use and complex mental health challenges.

He is the co-founder of Kona Sober Living and creator of The Kona Method—a highly individualized, relationship-centered approach designed as an alternative to traditional Mental Health treatment. Built on years of hands-on experience, his model emphasizes real connection, daily structure, and immersive, real-world living as the foundation for lasting recovery.

In addition to his work in Hawaii, Jeff is the co-founder of Crownview Psychiatric Institute and Crownview Co-Occurring Institute in Oceanside, where he has helped develop programs focused on treating complex psychiatric and co-occurring disorders through individualized, evidence-based care.

He is also a co-founder of Experience Structured Living and Thrive Medical Specialists, further expanding his impact across the continuum of care—from residential treatment to long-term recovery support.

Jeff remains deeply connected to the recovery community and serves on the board of the 12 Step ‘Ohana Club of Kona, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting recovery across the Big Island.
